Hard Feelings

I’m tired of reading all the characterizations of the Lieberman boondoggle as being over hard feelings.

I’m aware of no one who opposed Lieberman retaining his chairmanships based on hard feelings. The issue is that he’s an incompetent idiot who failed to use his power as chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee to investigate things like the Iraq war and Katrina and Guantanamo over the past seven years, but who now has stated on the record that our next President is a traitor against America and in league with terrorists. Do you think there’s a chance that maybe Joe Lieberman will go looking through the back of his closet for his missing gavel and then start banging it around all of a sudden in order to impede the Obama administration? I don’t want to find out. Why would you even give him the chance?

The problem is that Joe Lieberman isn’t actually any good at his job, and he very well might use his position to act with maliciousness. What’s the upside here? There is none. But the downside is catastrophic. It’s not about hard feelings, but avoiding a repeat of the nonsense that brought Bill Clinton down. We don’t need any more assclowns with power to obstruct the Democratic agenda with frivolous investigations.

The sordid tale about hard feelings, however, fits perfectly into the narrative that progressive Democrats are a bunch of hippies with big hearts but no brains for the serious matters. So, they’re gonna run with it. It’s one of their favorite stories: Frantic Dangerous Hippies Put Down By Serious Leaders Who Used Their Seriousness To Do What Had To Be Done.

  1. I HATE Lieberman so much at this point, that my standard “oops this will get me in trouble with people at parties” rant has become “goddamn useless shell of a brain cracked turtle on his back Lieberman”.

Which is nice, cause I was feeling a little lost since the election.
