Apparently, Some Mormons Actually Have Functioning Consciences

Signing For Something is a Website for Mormons to complain to their leaders about the institutionalized bigotry in their church. There’s even a page telling you how to resign from the LDS, which some Mormons are doing. Good for them. Supporting a hate-group with your presence and membership is wrong. Apparently some people are figuring it out.

Personally, I don’t see the logic in complaining. The LDS and the Catholic Church are not democracies. The structure of the organizations is that they tell you what to believe and then you believe it, or you shut up and get in line anyway. I don’t think that a letter writing campaign is going to change these religious leaders’ minds or their behaviors. Religious leaders aren’t interested in dialogue; they’re interested in dictating. I guess that trying to complain won’t hurt anything, but I don’t think it’s going to accomplish anything either. I think that letter-writing is an error in judgment, which I can understand. We all make errors in judgment. On the other hand doing nothing at all is a moral error. It signifies the lack of a conscience. And if you don’t have a conscience, then you can go fuck yourself.

I’m unaware of a similar Catholic movement. If there were one and I just hadn’t heard of it, I’d be impressed. But I don’t expect to be impressed. Nonetheless, at least somebody isn’t afraid to stand up for what’s right.
