The Pirates lost tonight, but Nyjer Morgan is so cool.
I realize that he’s not a good player, and that he’ll never be a good player. The Pirates fans who talk about Nyjer Morgan as if he’s a prospect are overlooking the fact that he’s twenty-seven years old and has yet to log a full year in the majors. In his 60 major league games so far he has an OPS of 80, so let’s face it, he’s a fourth outfielder on the Pirates which means he’s not fit to even be on a major league roster on any other team.
But jeez am I a sucker for a short skinny guy who bunts a lot and steals bases all the time. He’s basically a sucky Ichiro, and for where the Pirates are now in their development, that’s gonna be the best we can hope for. Bunting and stealing bases is exciting, even if it’s bad strategy. Go Nyjer Morgan.
