Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Tuesday that sending a second U.S. aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf could serve as a “reminder” to Iran, but he said it’s not an escalation of force.
What if Iran sent a fully armed battleship into the Gulf Or Mexico? Wouldn’t that be OK too? What if it wasn’t sent as an escalation of force, but only as a reminder? Then it would be OK, right?
But of course, it would never happen. Iran has no such battleship. That’s why the US can get away with sending ships to threaten them. The schoolyard bully never picks on the second strongest kid. He always picks on the weakest one. That way he’s bound to win every fight. And then of course when he’s caught by the teacher, he insists that he wasn’t starting a fight at all.
