I’ll assume for now that Obama will win the primary and that the general election will be McCain vs. Obama. What happens then?
So far, we have this: McCain denies inappropriate relationship with lobbyist. McCain might had a romantic relationship with a lobbyist according to the NY Times, whatever that paper is worth anymore. If it’s true, it would mean that John McCain is quite literally in bed with corporate influence. I don’t think this scandal is going to disappear any time soon.
The lucky lady’s Web profile on her law firm’s website has been taken down, but archive.org never forgets. Look! She went to IUP!
Obama has problems too. He supposedly promised according to the Clinton and McCain campaigns that if his potential Republican opponent accepted matching funds, he would too. If he did promise this, it might be a problem, since he now seems to be leaning in favor of not accepting matching funds.
I wish that I could actually find the entire original quote in context, but it seems elusive. The best that I can find is, “I will aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican,” which doesn’t seem as much of a promise, but a strong statement of intent to negotiate.
So, did Obama actually promise what Clinton and McCain say that he promised? Even if he did, will voters care? Is this issue too convoluted for John Q. Public, or will it tarnish the Obama image and make him seem not so shiny and new after all?
My guess at the moment is that it won’t matter because McCain won’t accept public funding anyway and this is smoke and mirrors, mostly generated by the Clinton campaign.
