He said that after Hillary’s lame “plagiarism” accusation in the debate tonight. What I notice about it isn’t just that it’s Obama’s typical positivity, but that it’s religious language.
“To lift [blank] up,” or often “to lift [blank] up in prayer” is a catchphrase of American Christianity. I would hardly be the first person to point out that leaders in American history have used Christian language to great effect. Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King are the oft’ referenced examples of this kind of rhetoric. I’m just saying that I notice when Obama does it too. He’s very good at it. I’m an atheist, and I like to hear him talk this way.
